The 4 Phases of Design
Interior Design is a discipline that follows specific stages to ensure proper study, understanding, and execution of interior projects. Whether it be a small residential remodel, or a large corporate relocation, we have the systems in place to ensure we are as thorough and as diligent as possible. Below are the four phases of design we utilize in the majority of our projects.
Programming
Programming is the first stage in which we get an overview of your project. We need to understand how you live and work to ensure our design encompass your needs and wants. Our programming may start with a questionnaire, an interview, or even observation. Typical programming questions range from: Do you entertain? To is your business looking to expand. This is also when we determine if you’re interested in a sustainable project, and bring LEED Certified individuals on board to assist.
Schematic Design Phase
This phase of design in which we determine the spatial specifics of your project. All construction projects require compliance with local building codes, and we investigate exactly what those are. We also take a very close look with your specific space to determine what existing parameters are to be included, and what will need to go. Given we are a sustainable interior design firm, we enjoy re-using and re-purposing and will propose these ideas to you in the Schematic Design Phase.
Design Development
In this stage you really start to see your project come to life. This is where we put the pen to paper, and start drafting a solid space plan. Taking into consideration the information gathered in the first two phases, we are able to begin to generate real-time working drawings. Depending on your needs as our client, and the size and scope of your project, we can generate computer generated plans and construction documents, or for smaller projects, hand drafted mill-work details and sections.
Contract Administration
DCR Interiors can work with your contractor, or bring in skilled, experienced, and trustworthy contractors of our own to execute your project. When we are involved in the contract administration portion of the project, we act as the Project Manager, scheduling and monitoring the project on your behalf. With our fine eye for quality control, and always watching the clock, we are able to take away the burden of worry and replace it with excitement as your project progresses successfully and on schedule.
