With Moroccan stools as inspiration, a fresh, relaxing, and elegant space was born. A new floor plan opened up the area for more entertaining, and a more open feel. Freshly framed and matted watercolors adorn the walls in delicate colors, yielding a sense of peace and happiness.

Berwick chairs from Ethan Allen were chosen because of their curvilinear arm which accented the stools, the upholstery on the existing sofas, and the handrails to an upper level of the home. A herringbone fabric was chosen for the Berwick chairs to create depth, a contrasting texture, and classic luxury. Kreiss coffee and end tables with marble tops add weight and substance to the room.

Because of the muted color palette, texture was very important. A custom round rug in a thick pile adds warmth and shape, while Obi tables create visual interest which ties in with the canning of the Berwick chairs, and the sofa upholstery.

Elegant. Relaxing. Fresh. Airy. This Laguna Niguel residence is transformed into a home worthy of peaceful enjoyment.

Hans Wegner trained as a cabinet-maker prior to becoming one of the most innovative furniture designers in the world. Hans was born in Denmark in 1914 and later attended the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts. The majority of Wegner’s chairs were produced by PP Møbler and Carl Hansen & Søn. They were designed with the concept that the chairs could function by themselves, not needing to compliment other pieces of furniture. A good example of this is the Folding Chair, designed in 1949. Not only does the chair make a statement as a seat, but when not in use it disguises itself sculpturally on the wall, easily being stored.

Wegner’s most praised collaborations are with Johannes Hansen. The ideas they presented together walked a perfect line between design and craftsmanship. One of their most popular designs was the three-legged chair. It is made of plywood and stands on three very sturdy legs. The chair provides comfort as well as support, and is one of the most iconic chairs to exist. Wegner was awarded many times throughout his life for his prolific designs and his chairs can be found in numerous permanent displays in the world’s most prestigious museums.
